Fourknocks

Fourknocks is a passage tomb that is around 5000 years old. Passage tombs were built by farming communities to bury the dead and feature a narrow passageway that leads to an open room. Several passage tombs exist in Ireland and the most famous of them is Newgrange.
Inside Fourknocks, the remains of around 65 people were found, along with pottery and jewelry. These objects have sinced been moved to museums around the world.
Passage tombs such as Fourknocks feature megalithic art.
Fourknocks also has the only representation of a human face from the megalithic time period carved into its stones.
Fourknocks comes from gaelic "Na Fuarchnoic" meaning "the Cold Hills." There is a lovely view of the Irish countryside from the tomb.
