Rupert Railroad Bridge

Traveling along Route 42 through Rupert on the way to Catawissa, you'll notice some train tracks running along the river, as well as a set of cabooses on an old bridge
These belong to a man named Walter Gosciminski who is a big fan of the local railroad history and you can actually rent some of his cabooses! He also owns a fantastic old bridge that goes over the Susquehanna River. It was built in 1933 and was part of the Reading Railroad.
These supports next to the bridge were used for a bridge that existed prior to the construction of the metal bridge. When this new bridge was built, the old bridge was removed, but its supports remained in the water.
There are several ladders providing access beneath the bridge.
Signals were in place on both ends of the bridge. The bridge connected the tracks on either side of the river. However, the original tracks on the Rupert side are no longer in place.
These two river photos were taken on October 14th.
