Not so deep in the forests of Salem Mountain in eastern Archbald lies a lovely little reservoir. This pleasant spot is called White Oak Reservoir and is located on White Oak Run.

The reservoir is sometimes used for swimming, but it's usually left alone. Downstream from the reservoir, the creek runs quickly, carving out the ravine it lies in. Upstream, however, the creek is fairly quiet, except for the rumbling of the Forty Foot Falls.

The first of the three falls is smaller than the other two, and it's very difficult to get a good picture of, due to the trees.

The other two falls, which flow off the same ledge, are more impressive and much easier to photograph. The Forty Foot Falls are formed by Indian Cave Creek converging with White Oak Run.

The area along White Oak Run is popular for camping and partying. On our trip to visit the falls, we came across three small fire pits with evidence of recent beer parties and camping (not photographed). Fortunately, the litter doesn't take away from the beauty of the falling water.
